Authentication of Document - Apostille
Effective Jan 11 2024, Canada is a member country of the Hague Apostille Convention, the authentication process for public documents issued in Canada is referring as the “Apostille” process.
China has also joined the Hague Apostille Convention, regions in mainland China, Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR may ask for certificates of authentication or apostilles for certain documents to ensure the documents are valid.
In Ontario, the Official Documents Services (ODS) in downtown Toronto is the Canadian government office to issue certificates of authentications and apostilles. The ODS verifies the validity of documents by checking the signatures and seals on the documents and authenticates document by issuing certificate of authentication, the “Apostille”.
